About
Logan Kanapathi is a well-seasoned politician. He was elected as the MPP for the new Markham-Thornhill riding in 2018, winning over 50 per cent of the popular vote. Prior to that he served as a City of Markham Councillor for 12 years and Markham’s Budget Chief and Budget Vice Chair for 7 years.
Originally from Sri Lanka, He was forced to flee the country as a political refugee in 1983 in fear of his life. Because of his tough past, it was an incredibly historic event to be the first Tamil elected to public office in North America.

With nearly two decades in the political field, Logan Kanapathi has been a part of many community initiatives such as the creation of Aaniin Community centre, spearheading the annual Markham Milliken Children’s Festival, Tamil Heritage Month in Markham and so much more.
